Comprehensive Beatdown Episode 48: 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne - ColleGrove

Silent G and Bloggy Bonilla are back this week with episode 48, after taking a little Spring Break last week. This time around, the guys check out the new 2 Chainz album, Collegrove. Essentially a collaborative record with Lil Wayne, Collegrove is only credited to 2 Chainz, however, because of various label politics. The album features a heavy hitting list of producers including Mannie Fresh, Mike Will Made It, Lil C, Metro Boomin, London on da Track, and others.

The intro music is from Ethiopian electronic artist Mikael Seifu.

The outro is from Slangston Hughes, who will be performing with his band, Fo on the Flo, alongside Skipp Coon and PyInfamous Friday night, March 18, at the Workshop in downtown Jackson.

Comprehensive Beatdown Episode 46: Mavis Staples - Livin' On A High Note

Comprehensive Beatdown hits you this week with Episode 46. Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G take a spin with the new Mavis Staples record, “Livin’ on a High Note,” which was released on February 19 on Anti Records. In keeping with her recent string of working with Indie Rock artists (namely Jeff Tweedy from Wilco on the past two projects), Staples turned to M. Ward to produce the album and contribute songwriting along with other artists like Neko Case, Ben Harper, Aloe Blacc, Nick Cave, and others.

The intro music is off of “Basar,” from German electronic duo Africaine 808 (one of Silent G’s favorite releases so far this year).

Comprehensive Beatdown Podcast: Episode 42 - David Bowie - Black Star

Comprehensive Beatdown is back with episode 42. This week, Bloggy Bonilla check out “Blackstar,” the final album from David Bowie, released just weeks before his death on January 10, 2016. It is his 25th album.

The intro track is from “Catastrophic,” the newest album from Tortoise and the guys listen to new tracks from Black Milk and Nick Grant (featuring Big K.R.I.T. and Killer Mike).

(ed. note: Since we don’t know much about David Bowie, we spent most of the time talking about basketball, flat earth, Kanye West vs. Wiz Khalifa, the state of public education, social media, and more. You know, just some light conversation. Also, please excuse a couple of technical difficulties. We were shaking off the rust after not having recorded in a few weeks.)
